You change a diaper (or nappy) six to ten times a day, so the wipe you choose matters. A good one makes changes quick and calm. A bad one means extra wipes, a fussy baby, and a lot of second-guessing.
I'm a licensed home childcare provider, and I change diapers all day. I've had wipes tear in my hand mid-change, which means grabbing a second and a third. I've used others that left a sticky residue, so I ended up wiping twice. Parents trust me with their babies, and that trust is why I'm so careful about what touches their skin.
Here's what I check before I trust any wipe:
1. Choose fragrance-free
Your baby's skin is still developing, so the fewer extras in a wipe, the better. Be careful with "unscented." Some wipes use masking fragrance to cover up smells. Check the ingredient list for the word fragrance, and if it's there, put the pack back.
2. Read the ingredient list
A shorter list is easier to understand, and that's a good sign. You should be able to see what each ingredient does. Water should come first. Look for gentle, familiar ingredients like glycerin, which helps skin feel soft, and panthenol (vitamin B5), which is commonly used in baby skincare.
3. Look for a balanced pH
Healthy skin is slightly acidic. A wipe made to match that is a gentler choice than one that ignores it. If a brand lists its pH, that's a good sign it's paying attention.
4. Check the size and the fabric
A wider, softer, thicker sheet does more in one wipe, so there's less rubbing and fewer wipes per change. Plant-based fibres are also a nice option if you want to cut down on plastic.
5. Look for proof, not just promises
Words like "gentle" and "natural" aren't regulated, so anyone can print them. Look for something you can verify, like dermatologist testing or microbiological testing. A brand that tests its wipes will usually say so.

Why I made PureNestra
When my son was born early, I learned to read labels the way other people read contracts. His skin was so delicate that I couldn't take anything on the shelf for granted, so I checked every ingredient, every time. PureNestra is what I wished I could have found back then: simple, gentle, and honest.
Our wipes are fragrance-free, pH balanced, 99% purified water, 2x wider than conventional wipes, and dermatologist-tested. See PureNestra Baby Wipes → https://purenestra.com/products/baby-wipes
